Bruckheimer not losing sleep after summer flops

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jul 24, 2010 by Jeff Vice Deseret News

Don’t feel too bad for Jerry Bruckheimer. He’ll bounce back sooner than later.

The film and television uber-producer, whose hits include both the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “National Treasure” franchises, has been involved in his share of costly flops lately.

Take, for example, the live-action fantasy adventure films “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Both movies got mixed reviews and have fared poorly at the box office.

“Prince of Persia” won’t recoup its reported $200 million production budget, at least in its U.S. theatrical release.

And at this point, it’s looking extremely unlikely that “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” will even come close to the $100 million threshold. (That film cost $150 million to make.)

You can blame poor planning and scheduling in part for that.

In a summer populated with animated hits (“Despicable Me,” “Shrek Forever After” and “Toy Story 3″), blockbuster sequels (“Iron Man 2″ and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) and successful remakes (“The Karate Kid”), these two really didn’t stand a chance.

Also, the marketing and promotion for both movies was generic and unexciting — if not misleading.

Trailers for “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” pushed the action elements and not the more appealing comic ones.

You never know, these movies might find audiences in their inevitable home-video releases. They might even reach the break- even point eventually.

And Bruckheimer already has one guaranteed hit in production, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” which is set for release on May 20, 2011. He’s also producer for television’s “Amazing Race” and the “CSI” series.

He’s not losing any sleep over two underachieving projects.

Autoresponders: Coming back Back For Additional by Bob
    in Internet (submitted 2010-07-28)

There was a time when having an autoresponder was a important perk in ecommerce internet design. The early versions of autoresponders would only permit for a 1-time auto response. This meant that on-line business might send a many thanks note, catalogue or an ‘regarding us’ email, but that may be the extent of the auto response messages the system might send. The business owner might solely create the choice of 1 item to send to all or any customers. If the owner modified what was sent it had been changed for all subsequent auto responses.

Nowadays the idea of an autoresponder as a perk seems somewhat ridiculous. Most web designs supply a singular autoresponder either as an add-on or as half of the look package.

The rationale it’s ‘no massive deal’ nowadays is the arrival of sequential autoresponders. This technology is what permits businesses to send follow up materials which will come back in a lot of than one mailing without requiring you to personally manage the data distribution.

Perhaps the largest reason for using sequential autoresponders has to try and do with the need for customer impressions

Why Should I Register My New Product? by Sotiris Spyrou
in Self Help / Advice (submitted 2009-10-20)

From time to time, design fault in appliance can lead to a product recall. This is rare but has been known to happen. This is usually motivated by7 safety concerns and is one of the reasons why it is always a good idea to register your product. In the event of a model fault, the manufacturer can contact with details and the solution, replacements or further advice.

As an example, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Frigidaire, of Cleveland, Ohio has recently announced a voluntary recall of the 35,000 Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Kenmore, Wascomat, and White-Westinghouse clothes washers. Consumers were asked to stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

This was due to a hazard caused by an internal defect in the washer’s drain pump can cause heat to build up, posing a fire hazard to the consumer. This pump was used in all these models as is often the case in this and other industries. In this case, there was a potential hazard. No incidents or injuries have been reported and it is stressed that this was a voluntary recall, but necessary none the less.

This recall involved the Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Kenmore, Wascomat, and White-Westinghouse top load washers, 3.1 cubic foot front load washers and laundry centers – all popular design types in the area

Completion of a degree in college also helps even if it is only a two-year degree. The employer once they know you are trainable will take your application seriously and you may find yourself with a decent starting wage too.

It is advisable when picking out a resume format for a professional auto mechanics job to not try to get too tricky with fancy fonts or formats. Simply choose a standard, basic resume design and put in the necessary and needed information. They are not looking for pencil neck geeks or graphic artists, they are looking for real auto mechanics who can get the job done right the first time. Consider all this in 2006.

Tiger is teeing up for divorce

0 Comments | El Chicano Weekly; San Bernadino, Calif., May 6, 2010

LOVE rat golfer TIGER WOODS has seen a divorce lawyer after admitting his marriage is over, it was claimed last week.

Woods, who cheated on wife ELIN NORDEGREN with dozens of women, has talked to attorney Jeff Fisher. He represented fellow golfer GREG NORMAN in his split from his first wife Laura.

Norman, 55, is said to have paid her a $68million settlement. The news emerged as Swede Elin decided to stay in her homeland with me couple’s two children.

She is said to want to return there permanently from the Florida home she shared with Woods.

But the golfer is worried he won’t see his kids if she does.

A source revealed: “She’s returning from Sweden within two weeks and that’s when events with Tiger will come to a showdown.”

Other sources insist that Elin, 30, is definitely divorcing 34-year-old Woods.

An insider said: “It’s 100 percent happening.

“Elin and her mother met with a lawyer before they went to Sweden. It’s going to take a long time to go through. But she will go through with it

Or many children are allergic to dairy products. But you can find other sources of calcium. Some examples of calcium-rich foods are calcium-fortified orange juice, soy products and bread. Other examples of food that have a lot of calcium are collard greens, white beans, almonds, bok choy, cooked rhubarb, red beans, cooked broccoli, cooked kale, cooked, okra, cooked beet greens, oranges, English muffin, pancakes, some ready to eat cereals, taco salad, cheese pizza, sardines with bones and canned salmon with bones.

If your child is lactose intolerant, there are many lactose-free dairy products on the market today. You can also find lactase drops that can be added to dairy products and lactase tablets that can be ingested so that those with lactose intolerance can eat dairy products. Hard cheeses such as cheddar are lower in lactose.

Growing Up With Diaper Bags by thomas devos
in Shopping / Gifts (submitted 2009-11-20)

During my childhood, I don’t believe I ever encountered a mom walking around sporting a genuinely nice diaper bag. It was the 1980s and what you’d see were bags with characters like Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse printed on them — until the late 1990s. Those cutesy bags of the 80s are now considered outdated and baby bags have entered a “brand” new fashion trend, literally, ‘designer diaper bags’.

In the last five years, a number of companies have created designer diaper bags, making something as mundane as a baby bag into a fashion statement. These bags that use to look like a bag sported by ones grandmother has now become an elegant and classy fashion accessory made by such style houses as; Juicy Couture, Gucci, Kate Spade, and many more.

What’s even harder to believe is what some of these companies use to create these luxurious bags for diapers. Sometimes even silk is the material of choice, which is a little illogical, making buying into this fad a tug-of-war between practicality and desire. As a sort of compromise to oneself, a woman might try getting the best of both worlds and carry around a nice diaper bag while attaching a regular Skip Hop bag to a stroller to ensure resilience just in case the tasteful one gives way.

The fashion path diapers have taken are now also giving dads the opportunity to join what was once just a woman’s world with lines that offer diaper bags with manly designs for dads to carry, since most wouldn’t be too thrilled about a pink bag with colorful patterns of teddy bears or clowns.

So that means your small family may end up lugging around as much as three diaper bags which doesn’t seem at all wise anymore, but if you think about it, as long as you have a baby around, you’ll need to use one of these bags almost everyday. When your baby’s grown into a toddler, though, you would probably be more comfortable substituting a smaller pod for the less amount of stuff you need to bring and just place it in your own purse. But you’ll once again adjust to bringing around a baby bag when you have your second child. An option may be double-dimensioned bags being sold by a few companies which were made specifically with twins and families with two little children in mind.

It goes without saying that even diaper bags will have you splitting hairs to make decisions. It’s difficult yet matters a lot. Find middle ground and choose one that’s both practical for use, yet fits your style. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself at the fancy handbag stores. It might even be wiser to register for one instead that you picked out yourself for friends and family to chip in and get you for your baby shower. This would not only make you feel less impractical, it would give you a good feeling about your beautiful diaper bag all the way through.
